The Center's History

1969

Kendick House estabished as the Afro-American Cultural Center

1970

Urban Center for Black Studies estabished in Poughkeepsie's Black community, Closed in 1980.

1976

Intercultural Center established in basement of Lathrop House.

1990

Interculutral Center moves to Blegen House on Collegeview Avenue.

1991

Plans approved for the conversion of the former coal bin building into a large center.

1993

Construction of the new building completed.

1998

Interculutral Center renamed ALANA Center, an acronym to include various communities of color.
